Filming day three: Friday 28th October

Today we filmed at Normanby Hall and we revised the farm location due to not being able to film here yesterday. We arrived early at the farm location to ensure that we were going to get done in plenty of time to make sure we had enough time left to go to Normanby Hall and record. Luckily we finished at the farm within an hour of arriving, all of the shots we had planned went to plan and I am very happy with the result of the trip. One of the shots we had planned to film at the farm was a shot of Sophie ripping up a photograph of herself and Charlie, to ensure we got the perfect shot we decided to take four copies of the photograph. Taking numerous copies of the photograph was a fantastic idea as it gave us the opportunity to take the shot from different angles e.g over her shoulder, looking up at her and a long shot of her. We then moved on to Normanby Hall, here we had to shoot one of the memories for the video and then eight lines of the song. Everything that we filmed here we filmed directly from our storyboards which made the process very quick, easy and very time efficient. So overall I am extremely happy with everything we filmed today and how Morgan, Indya and I worked as a team throughout the process of filming.

Filming day two: Thursday 27th October

Today the locations we planned on using were the scene at Sophie's house in the bath, the memory scene in the snug and finally the abandoned farm. However, upon arrival to the farm it came to our attention that some people were at the farm that could potentially effect our filming so we decided to change our filming at the farm to Friday morning. Instead of going to the farm we decided to go down a public footpath which was near the farm anyway just so we wasn't wasting time to take some photo's of Sophie that could be used for the digipak. This was successful and we got a couple of images of Sophie with some landscaped backgrounds. The memory we filmed in the snug turned out really well, the narrative our video is based around is domestic abuse, so we have a memory of a time that our male actor gets angry due to Sophia not being ready then gets aggressive. This scene took along time to film as we wanted to make it tasteful but yet get across a strong narrative of a very current problem in the world. The scene in the bath we have decided to re-film due to having another idea after we had finished filming. We are going to try our new idea and then decided in editing which we prefer. Overall I believe that today didn't go aswell as the previous, however we still have got alot of scenes done.

Filming day one:Wednesday 26th October

Today was our first day of shooting our music video 'Gravity'. Locations which we used today was the door scene at Amy's house, the bedroom at my house and the bathroom at my house. During the day we got everything we wanted to get done filmed. At our first location we had no problems as everything went really well. However during the second scene we were planning to film we struggled to get the lighting right. As the scene we were trying to film in the bedroom is to be at night, however due to having the curtains and the blinds shut this made seeing the faces of Sophie and Charlie extremely hard. We tried numerous ways to solve this problem, including using fairy lights above the actors heads and having Amy our helper for the day standing with a lamp pointing at the ceiling so it didn't make the scene look too bright so it is a realistic light for a nighttime scene. Finally all of the shots we took in the bathroom went really well. Overall I believe that our first day went really well and  I believe that we are well on target for the rest of our filming.

Research: TA evaluation of music consumption

Question1:
From this question we established that people mainly consume music video's through 'Youtube'. This statistic did not really surprise me as I am the same as as our target audience and through youtube is the way I mainly consume music video's. This question has given us a good insight in to how our video would get watched by the public.

Question 2:
We gained positive feedback from question number two as all 20 people we asked to complete our handout said that they listen to music lots which is the best result we could of had for this question.

Question 3:
From question 3 asking how people mostly listen to music the majority of the results were youtube, however Spotify was another popular answer. I believe this as Youtube is software that you tend to watch on a computer or phone when you want to watch a music video not to just listen to music. Whereas Spotify can be used on the go via a phone, also Spotify have lots of deals to entice people in to become premium member so they can listen to music without wifi or internet connection which you can't do when your not premium, which is appealing to our target audience by having student deals.
Question 4:
From this question we discovered that the most music downloaded was downloaded through iTunes, which is a positive answer as it means they are officially downloading it not illegally. However the next highest answer was 'no' meaning that they don't download music, I personally believe this is due to people mainly listening to music on Youtube and Spotify and there is no need to download it as they can listen to it for free anyway without having to illegally download it.
Question 5:
One major surprise we have found from our target audience research is that 11 out of the 20 people asked never buy CDs and only 4 rarely buy them. For us this is a worrying statistic as we are trying to launch our star Sophia via a CD and digipak to this age group. To resolve this problem I believe we need to complete some more target audience research to investigate why people don't buy CD's anymore and to see if there is anything in particular that would make them buy a CD e.g a unique selling point that we could investigate doing for our digipak.

Planning:Beat Script

Key:RED lyrics, Green our plans
Something always brings me back to you
Sophia applying lipstick in the mirror, Jason enters in the background
It never takes too long
Jason shouting at Sophia
No matter what I say or do
Sophia starts to argue back
I'll still feel you here 'till the moment I'm gone
Jason grabs her arm then hits her(but the camera cuts here so we don't actually see her being hit)
You hold me without touch
Cut to Sophia in the bath
You keep me without chains
Holding herself like a chain would
I never wanted anything so much than to drown in your love
Sophia submerging into the bath
And not feel your reign
Sophia's head rising from the water
Set me free, leave me be
Locking door behind her
I don't want to fall another moment into your gravity
Walking into camera
Here I am, and I stand
Singing into camera
So tall, just the way I'm supposed to be
still singing into camera
But you're on to me and all over me
A memory of Sophia and Charlie is seen of them having a picnic
Oh, you loved me 'cause I'm fragile
Sophia singing into camera
When I thought that I was strong
Still singing into camera but showing high emotion
But you touch me for a little while
Memory of Sophia and Jason cuddled up together
And all my fragile strength is gone
Sophia tries to get up but Jason grabs her arm and pulls her back
Set me free, leave me be
Sophia singing into a mirror, revealing bruises to the camera
I don't want to fall another moment into your gravity
Walking into camera
Here I am, and I stand
Singing into camera showing strength
So tall, just the way I'm supposed to be
Sophia walking around showing she is strong now without Jason
But you're on to me and all over me
Same as previous line walking showing power but emotion
I live here on my knees as I try to make you see
Sophia being emotional on the ground whilst singing
That you're everything I think I need here on the ground
Sat against wall saying Sophia and Jason in a heart
But you're neither friend nor foe though I can't seem to let you go
Sophia rips up photograph of her and Jason then throws it in the air
The one thing that I still know is that you're keeping me down
Sophia looking at phone slowly head rises as she sings long note
You're keeping me down,eh ohh
Side shot of her singing leaning against wall
You're onto me, on to me, and all over
A tear running down her cheek
Something always brings me back to you
Turns her head slowly will running mascara down her face
It never takes to long

Conclusions of research

Also from our research we have decided that we are going to try some camera movement e.g tracking. We are going to try tracking for our music video, however if this is not effective we will use something else due to us wanting the quality of the video to look professional and not shakey. We are also going to follow conventions in our video and cut from the different shots on the beat, however at some parts in the video we are going to break traditional conventions by using a cross dissolve effect from one shot to another. At the end of our music video we intend for the camera to zoom out from a message on a phone we are going to try doing this shot two different ways. The first way we are going to shoot this shot is by physically zooming out on the camera, shooting it this way will ensure a clearer image however maybe wobbly due to the angle the camera will be at on the tripod. The second way we are going to shoot this shot is through using editing, the ken burns tool will manually zoom in or out onto what we want it to, downsides of this tool is that it decreases the quality of the shot with may make it look pixelated and unprofessional.

Introducing out supporting actor Charlie

This is Charlie Bradley, he is going to be the male actor in our music video. Charlie and Sophie are in a relationship in real life so in the music video we will see a real connection between the pair. We will call Charlie's character Jason. Charlie is going to come to all three of our filming days, as the parts we are using him for in the music video are very bitty as he features in it numerous times but all at different times and locations.

Group post: Group Chat

A few days ago I created a group chat on Facebook in order for us to communicate and organize ideas faster. This will make planning the music video so much easier as we all have access to our mobile phones daily so whenever we get an idea we can share it with the group immediately.

Group post: Organisation of music video

We've made a mind map to show everything we have planned for the music video. On this mind map is our locations that we are using and the dates we plan to use them, props we plan on using e.g alcohol bottle, letter and a rose, the equiptment we are going to need our budget and finally the actors we are going to use. Putting all of this important information into one place makes it much easier for us to see what we have left to do/ what we've already planned. Also this will be a good check list for preparing for our filming days to ensure we don't forget anything.

Planning: Permission from Normanby Hall.

Group Post: Shot types

In our music video we will use more shots like tracking shots and close ups as this will relate to our video a lot more because it will show her emotion and feeling, such as the close up on her face to show her beauty.
How this influenced my planning
  • I like the use of the dark make up to represent fear
  • I like the use of a two shot of the same person in a different costume
  • I like the use of a tracking shot to show how her movement represents how she is feeling.

Favourite photo's from shoot with Sophie

I uploaded my favourite photo's from our shoot with are artist Sophie to Flickr. Putting them on Flickr means that people we be able to see them, this is a way to start getting our star image for Sophie out and on the internet.

TA research 2: Flickr

Amy Johnson's Slidely by Slidely Slideshow

The photo's we have uploaded to Flickr are possible photo's that we are going to use for our digipak. Some of the photo's we liked will not be appropriate for our digipak, for example the photo of the couple in the bed would not be appropriate for the cover of our music video as it does not clearly show who the star is.
